Background

The City of Berkeley currently has an ordnance that officially bans the use and transportation of any sort of nuclear technology within the city limits of Berkeley. As petition collectors, we believe that this act no longer reflects the correct sentiment about nuclear technology as there are so many positive uses that this act unfortunately ignores. If we can convice people in the most progressive city in California that nuclear medicine and nuclear energy are safe, clean, and effective, then we might just be able to convince the whole state to end the Nuclear Moratorium and help meet its climate goals.

Summary of Event

The group of petitioners met at North Gate on the UC Berkeley campus and talked through some scripts and strategies over bagles and coffee. Around 2pm the group split up all over Berkeley to go and collect signatures from people. Some individuals went to parks and others knocked on doors and chatted with their neighbors. All in, the club was able to collect around 40 signatures with about an hour and a half of time on Sunday afternoon. Next week we plan to go to the local farmers market to earn more support for the petition.
