Professor Seo is an expert in radiopharmceuticals. He came from a background in dark matter research. He began his academmic career doing imaging on dark matter detection systems to help discover the secrets of the universe. This dark matter imaging research translated pretty well with they type of imaging that is needed for medical systems. He has developed several radiopharmaceuticals that are in clinical trials for use in radio therapy. Radiopharmaceuticals is the field of leveraging radiation producing compounds for medical benefits. There are certain isotopes such as Ac-225 and Lu-177 that can deliver lots of radiation in a confined time period. When injected into the body, the radiation can get physically close to a cancer tumor and kill it very effectively. Dr. Seo and his colleagues work on developing the componds that package and deliver these radioactive isotopes to cancer cells.
